Tapestry

December 29, 2010

Is it possible

that my defining moments

have been, will always be,

those moments I am most unaware of,

those moments

when I am just me,

when I’m doing ordinary things,

the things I do without thinking…

cooking dinner,

listening to the rain,

watching the ocean,

walking in the snow,

taking long, hot baths,

chatting with old friends, new friends, strangers, children,

daydreaming,

working,

hurting,

planning,

wanting…needing…giving up…finding again,

loving,

crying, not crying

hoping, hoping, hoping

twisting my hair,

biting my lip,

counting my blessings?

Is it possible

that my defining moments

are small, shiny metallic threads

woven so skillfully in the tapestry of this life,

that the detail of them might be missed

if I didn’t look closely enough?
